Friederike Lange, representing the German Federal Ministry of Finance, delivered a keynote at the Singapore FinTech Festival 2024 on Germany's commitment to building a robust fintech ecosystem.

 

1. Supportive policies and Iinvestments

  • Initiatives like the €10 billion Future Fund and the WUN initiative aim to mobilise private and public venture capital for startups.
  • Regulatory reforms simplify frameworks, reduce red tape, and enable mechanisms like employee stock ownership to attract talent.

2. European collaboration and market integration

  • Efforts to reduce market fragmentation aim to create a unified European capital market.
  • Initiatives like the European Tech Champions Initiative leverage public funds to catalyse private investment.

3. Emerging trends in AI and data:

  • The EU’s AI Act sets ethical and safety guardrails while promoting innovation.
  • Open finance initiatives empower consumers by standardising and mandating data sharing.

4. Focus on crypto and blockchain:

  • Germany leads in crypto regulation and digital finance with frameworks like MICA and tokenized bond trials.
  • Bridging traditional finance and new technologies is a priority through innovations like the Bundesbank trigger solution.
